Charities | The Community Family

The Community Family (TCF) was founded in 1978 by a group of local group of families and professionals who were concerned about lack of community-based alternatives to nursing home care. The Everett Center was one of Massachusetts’ first adult day health centers. It quickly demonstrated the effectiveness and affordability of adult day health care – a novel approach to providing care at the time. Several years later, guided by the belief that adult day health services could successfully care for those with dementia, The Community Family opened one of the nation’s first Alzheimer’s adult day health programs in Medford in 1981. This center remains one of the few memory loss centers operating in Massachusetts. In 2019, TCF assumed operation of the Dutton Adult Day Health Center located in Wakefield. Before this the Dutton Center operated by Hallmark Health System for more than two decades.

The Medford facility offers a successful, engaging environment where participants experience a positive, secure, homelike atmosphere that encourages independence. The newly renovated building features comforting and colorful interiors. The staff worked with the Center's architect and designers to create an environment that engages participants and promotes a sense of safety and well being, focusing on a successful experience.

The Community Family Center in Medford operates out of a historically registered 18th Century building (formerly a train station) that sits on an acre of land and features a secure outdoor garden and walking paths. Located in a quiet, residential area, the Center is only minutes from Routes 93, 60, 16 and 28 for easy accessibility.
